WV INDEPENDENT LIVING HALL OF FAME

On July 21, 2002, at the fourth WV Disability Caucus, the Statewide Independent Living Council will establish the WV Independent Living Hall of Fame to recognize the foremost leaders/contributors to the independent living movement in West Virginia. Induction into the Hall of Fame will be considered the highest honor given to individuals contributing to the growth and efforts of the independent living movement and the disability community. Please use the form on the back (or a photocopy) to nominate individuals (living or deceased) you feel are deserving of this high honor.



Criteria:
The individual nominated should meet the following criteria:

  • Is a recognized leader in advancing the independent living movement in West Virginia

  • Has a demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the independent living
    philosophy

  • Has contributed to a positive vision for the disability community and made a lifelong commitment to the independent living movement

  • Has achievements that show a positive impact on the community of people with
    disabilities

  • Has conducted/participated in activities addressing disability issues at the community, regional, and/or national level

  • Has educated and organized others around disability issues

  • Has served as a role model and/or mentor to others in the independent living movement

Nomination forms must received by Friday, May 17, 2002.

Judging: The Statewide Independent Council Executive Committee has the sole authority to bestow this honor. Based on the nominations received, several or no inductees may be selected for 2002.
